Our menu is developed and built around our love of the fantastic produce we have right here on our doorstep - both from the sea and the beautiful lush surrounding countryside.
We have built great relationships with local suppliers who know what produce is excellent as the seasons change and we change our menu's accordingly!
We are proud to have a fantastic team of people in our kitchen that is led so ably by Executive Head Chef James seen in in the photo holding the plaque for Best Pub Partnership. Traditional, Quality and Value are key words in every aspect of our business, and we believe in going the extra inch every time - particularly where our food & menu's are concerned.
Anyone with a dietary requirement outside of what we offer on the menu or a special request can almost always be catered for - you just have to ask.
The majority of our food is sourced from within the wonderful larder of the West Country wherever possible. For example, the Beef (and Beefburgers) we use comes from Graham Letherbridge’s farm – Holesome Park - less than 5 miles away from us. The cattle are reared on natural diets which can include grass, turnips, hay, home-grown cereals (wheat and barley). They are grazed on land at Soar Mill, Hallsands and Bolberry. All of this leads to the meat having a succulent full flavoured taste. Our Chefs here trim and cut the Beef by hand, producing joints and prime steaks.
We’re right by the sea so of course we use as much fresh Fish as possible, and sourced predominantly from one of the most respected firms in the business; Kingfisher of Brixham - they are as passionate about Fish as we are! With almost 30 years in the industry, Kingfisher has become a kite-mark for quality fish, known throughout the country. They source their fish from Brixham, Plymouth, Looe and Newlyn, trading some of the finest produce in the West Country and they only supply fish from sustainable sources. The Crab we use fresh from Salcombe Crab Traders literally 10 minutes away from us!
Milk, cream, cheese and eggs are also from the West Country where possible and some of the eggs we use are from our own Chickens at the top of the pubs garden! We also work hard to help support our environment by re-cycling food waste, glass, cardboard and paper and we use energy efficient light bulbs wherever possible as well as the highest rated energy efficient Hand Dryers.
We are proud to have retained the Taste of the West Gold Award for the 2nd year running and we have just been awarded the Silver Award by Devon Tourism Awards for Pub of the Year 2015.
